You may be wondering WHY you should see a cosmetic dentist as opposed to a “regular” dentist, when really the biggest difference is that traditional dentistry focuses on oral hygiene & disease, while we as cosmetic dentist do that PLUS focus on improving the appearance of the teeth, mouth, and smile. Just call us the artists of the dental world, because generally speaking, a cosmetic dentist is a restorative dentist who has extensively studied the concepts of smile design and dental materials to create what could best be described as works of art. (Pretty neat, right?) It’s not all about bright white smiles though, there’s a lot that’s covered under restorative dentistry – some that really is just cosmetic and designed to boost your self-confidence, some that can better your health, and some that will make your life easier.
Having a damaged smile may diminish eating or speaking capacity as well as shaking your self-confidence. And wanting a more beautiful smile isn’t just some beauty-obsessed desire; it’s an important investment in your social and career opportunities. Your smile is right there on your face and is one of the first things people notice about you and having damaged, crooked, or discolored teeth affects how you portray yourself to others. Without a doubt, it’s true that the more confident you feel, the more confident you appear to others. So how can a cosmetic dentist help you put forward your best smile and improve your quality of life? Well, here’s a few ways…
- Dental implants are artificial tooth root replacements that are used in order to compensate for tooth loss. Usually made of titanium, an implant is used to replace the root portion of a missing tooth and is then fitted with a crown to create a natural-looking replacement for the entire tooth. Since missing teeth cause the face to collapse, making you look older, often the result is not only an enhanced smile, but a more youthful appearance!
- Composite bonding is a way to repair chipped & broken, discolored, and decayed teeth. A tooth-colored composite resin (hence the name!) is applied into the cavity or onto the surface of the tooth, then is sculpted into shape, contoured, and hardened with a high-intensity light. The final product? A healthy, bright smile and the improvement to the strength of your tooth. And at our office composite bondings only take ONE appointment to apply!
- Porcelain crowns restore structure and function to teeth that have been destroyed by decay or trauma. Crowning teeth can also create dramatic improvements for patients whose teeth have been worn by teeth grinding. Once set in place, a crown will cover anything left of a tooth that is above the gum line.
- And, of course, there is indeed teeth whitening! We use the GLO system (which we’ve discussed before) and find it to be the best teeth whitening system around. Our teeth become stained from a variety of things – smoking; food; coffee, tea & wine; even poor oral hygiene – and whitening is an easy & inexpensive way to enhance the appearance of your smile. Even if your teeth are in good condition, tooth whitening may add the extra touch you need to highlight an already beautiful smile!
We also offer a plethora of other services from dental extraction to gum therapy, even botox & dermal fillers. All of these are reasons to see a cosmetic dentist to keep your smile healthy & beautiful. Have questions? Give us a call at 201-438-2373!
